 History

Otrobanda is rich in history, offering insights into Curaçao's past through its well-preserved buildings and sites. Riffort, originally built to defend the island, has transformed into a lively area with shops and restaurants, all while offering stunning views of the harbor. The Pondjesbrug, or "floating bridge," connecting Otrobanda to Punda is a must-see when visiting the island. If you’re lucky, you can catch it when it’s opening for ships to pass through the harbor. Strolling down Breedestraat, you get to experience the old meeting the new, showcasing the evolution of the neighborhood over centuries. This area allows visitors to explore Curaçao's history, while experiencing the daily lives and culture of the island’s (and neighborhood’s) habitants.
